Pledging as a second semester junior, I felt that my time in APO was way too short. To make up for this, I decided to just throw myself completely into it and get as involved as a could. I always enjoyed going to an event and seeing a familiar face, so I made it my goal to become that familiar face to someone else. I hosted fellowships, speed meetings, was a PPGL x 2, was ~super~ involved with my family, and eventually was on fellowship team my last semester.
My favorite service events were ones that involved the local Ithaca community- the crossword puzzle competition by Tompkins Learning Partners and the cupcake competition for The Sophie Fund were my two favorites.
Having moved to a new city after graduation, I found myself immediately looking for volunteer opportunities in my area to meet new people. Within my first week of moving here I was doing a Habitat for Humanity build. I am now regularly volunteering through my office and I am even starting to become involved with the admin side of it.
My advice to current brothers and pledges is to not be afraid to put yourself out there. One of my favorite moments of my Cornell career was my Ted Talk, which is something I would have never been able to do anywhere else.
