How To

How To Chair Fellowships

  1. Think of an idea! Fellowships can be anything you would normally do with fellow pledges or friends. Here’s a quick list of common ideas:
    1. Going to a movie or the mall
    2. Study break – coffee, jumping in leaves, sledding down the slope!
    3. Ithaca Events – Applefest, Chilifest, free concerts, etc!
    4. Cornell Events – dance performances, Acapella concerts
    5. 161 Items – Climb the clocktower or go see the brains!
    6. Watching popular TV or movies
    7. Baking, cooking, or eating!
If you don’t have a good idea – ask the VPF (Hannah Fillas hmf28), they are your fellowship resource! They’re generally equipped with a cornucopia of ideas.
  2. Once you have an idea, decide on the time and place. Fellowships like study breaks or lunches can be anytime, but longer ones work best on the weekends or in the evenings. Make sure that wherever your fellowship is, people can get there! Will you walk, drive, or take the bus? Do they need you to get into the building? Do you need to reserve a room on campus?
  3. Work out any kinks - Think as an attendee, what would I want to know if I planned on going? Does it cost money? Do you need tickets in advance? If it’s a show, will you meet outside the performance to sit together? Do you need people to RSVP?
  4. Put the event up on apoonline.org/gamma with all the information:
    1. What: give the title a good name and provide a description
    2. Where: be specific!
    3. When: Give a start time and an ending time (it’s easier for the calendar)
    4. Who (that’s you!): it’s extremely helpful to send along your contact info
    5. Why: why should people go? This can be silly or totally serious!
  5. Go to your fellowship! Don’t forget to show up – it can be an embarrassing mistake! Also – HAVE FUN!!!
  6. Write an evaluation after the fellowship. As brothers, you must do this if you’re after the leadership credit (2 fellowships = 1 leadership credit). Click here for the link, and it is also at the bottom of every fellowship email!
