This summer I had the opportunity to go to Eastern Europe for an educational trip with my former high school. While visiting Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary, I learned about their expansive histories. While there exists many differences in our cultures, I found myself empathizing with our shared human values. As a result, the trip was life-changing because it reminded me that no matter what identities we have, we are all connected as humans. This reminded me of why I rushed APO in the first place; serving is more than just doing things for ourselves; but to bring people closer together by spreading love and justice.
